Bonnie Razorback
My large oil painting of the P-47D-23 Razorback Thunderbolt 'Bonnie'. This aircraft has been immaculately restored by the AirCorps Aviation in Bemidji, Minnesota, U.S.A. She is now the only flying Republic built P-47D Razorback left in the world.
I was inspired to paint this P-47 after watching a video of a display performed at Oshkosh in 2023. The aircraft looked and sounded fantastic. 'Bonnie' was named by Brigadier General William “Bill” Dunham Commanding Officer of the 460th Fighter Squadron, 348th Fighter Group. The P-47 is depicted parked at an airfield in Papua New Guinea during WW2. I used many different current and period photographs of the P-47 and Papua New Guinea to create this composition.
This painting was exhibited at the Guild of Aviation Artists 2026 Annual Exhibition at the Shuttleworth Collection.
Oil on MDF panel, framed, width: 880mm x height: 670mm
