Evading an Ace

This painting is a composition depicting the Focke Wulf 190 of Hans Dortenmann breaking to avoid two DeHavilland Mosquitoes after both parties emerge from heavy cloud somewhere over Northern France. My concept here was to depict the kind of 'cat and mouse' engagements these aircraft used to have, attempting to use speed and cloud cover to either escape or gain an advantage. The Mosquitoes are depicted in RAF 487 Squadron (New Zealand) colours.

This painting was exhibited at the Guild of Aviation Artists Annual Exhibition 2024 at the Shuttleworth Collection.

Oil on MDF panel, 450mm height x 600mm width (including frame).

£800
